Water saving affects us all

A conscious and rational use of water is one of the most difficult challenge that humanity must and will have to face in the near future.

The reasons for this challenge can be found among the following simple consideration:

•          The water present on Earth is only minimally “useful” for human consumption purposes, as most of it is salty or fixed in non-usable glaciers.
•          Currently the water is often the key factor discriminating “developed countries” from “developing countries”. Although the Third World term makes better the idea of drought, shortage of drinkable water and dramatic shortage of food for a large part of humanity.
•          Even though water saving, conscious use of water is a frequent subject of panel discussion, very few people are aware of real needs, since the most act like “free riders” over water use. The needs of the poorest of the world seem to us so far away that we relegate the issue to the last entry in the list, without even considering how important this is.
•          Empathy towards the problem, often expressed by meaningless words, as flagship of a false environmentalism, did not materialize in facts with the knowledge that water is an exhaustible resource. As a result, water saving – i.e. its conscious and efficient use – is a gesture that every citizen should make in order to better protect the environment and to upgrade the economy.
